About Holly Munson

Holly started pole dancing after admiring the grace, skill and elegance of pole performances and immediately falling in love with the style. After half a decade of bruises, struggling and then the satisfaction of success, her own pole school Firefly Poles was born. The vision is to share that same passion with others.

Holly wished that there was more Pole Dancing help available when I was learning, so now she aims to provide that help through writing, blogging and teaching here on PoleFreaks.

Holly is also a Level 3 Personal Trainer and an ambassador for Dragonfly pole wear, and also writes regularly for the Dragonfly blog .

Cross Training with CrossFit

Cross Training with CrossFit
I’ve seen a lot of people asking recently what are good ways to cross train with or for pole – and some asking about CrossFit in particular. I’ve been going to CrossFit on-and-off for about 5 months now, and have a good idea of how it’s helped or affected my training. My CrossFit journey started as I just didn’t have enough time to go to the gym, figure out a workout plan, and get it...

Pole Splits

Pole Splits
There seem to be so many cool pole splits going around at the moment. Whenever I get used to one, another one comes along, and I couldn’t be happier. My normal split can usually touch the floor on both sides – although I turn out a bit on my left side. I find that this is very apparent on some pole splits while others hide it nicely. I love that there are so many different ‘families’ of...

Get Your Flex On!

Get Your Flex On!
Okay so the picture attached is a massive achievement for me… massive! I know some of you will easily be able to do this without with thinking or even feeling a stretch, but for me it is torture! I have to stretch for ages before I even attempt this, and even when I do, I so far have only been able to hold it for one or two seconds. This picture is the first and only time I’ve ever been able to...

Holly Munson – Miss Pole Dance UK Semi-Pro Instructor 2017
I’m super happy with my performance from Miss Pole Dance UK in the semi-pro instructor category 😀 As with every performance I can see the bits that I want to change or moves I want to work on, but I love this routine. Massive thanks to Lorna Walker for helping me with the choreo for this one 😀

Resistance Band Training For Pole

Resistance Band Training For Pole
You may have seen a few videos of people using resistance bands to help them with their pole work. I never really understood how useful resistance bands were until I started using them. I like to use the bands on strength based moves. I’m currently working on my Cup Grip Deadlift, Tabletop with straight legs, Human Flag and Brass Monkey Lift. Of course there are so many other cool moves to try too...

Pole Ban for Pole Mojo?

Pole Ban for Pole Mojo?
Some of you may already know that I struggle with pole mojo from time to time. Now I’m not talking about one day where I just can’t be bothered to pole – I’m talking about weeks on end where I just don’t want to. I find that when I have to pole rather than wanting to pole, that’s when my motivation can start to fade. If I have to train to find new moves to teach,...

Embrace The Sticky Weather

Embrace The Sticky Weather
Here in the UK we really do have to embrace the hot sunny weather as much as we can, as we don’t know when the next sunny day will be. I’m a sun baby and will use any excuse to go out and sit in the sun, but recently I’ve been embracing the warm weather on the pole. I find that my hands start to get a little more slidey but my body just loves to grip! Use That Stick I know it can be super frustrating...

Hopefully this video will help to give you a little more information about your first class. It took me a year to build up the confidence to book my first pole class – and I just wish I had booked when I knew I wanted to try it. Your First Pole Class Each pole studio is...

Shoulder Warm Up

Shoulder Warm Up
It’s so important to warm your body up before you pole. Sometimes it’s the last thing we want to do – we just want to get on the pole. Warming up is incredibly important to keep you safe, so here are some of my favourite exercises to warm up my shoulders.

Spinning Pole Play 2

Spinning Pole Play 2
I had a little bit of time this week, and wanted to have a little play on the spin pole again. I’m attempting to add in some moves I love on static pole – my favourite so far is the shoulder mount 😀 What are your favourite spin pole moves?
